Fascinating Topics

This is a list of miscellaneous Byzantine topics which I wrote articles for, check them out! You may either go to to the dropdown arrow on the menu and see the list, or you can click on links below to see my articles:

Roman or Byzantine? A list of scholarly views: Here I went through many of my favorite books on Byzantine history, and took excerpts where the authors explained their view of Byzantine as an academic term, and Roman continuity. It is very interesting, and features of a wide sampling of different authors to really give it weight.

Roman-Chinese Foreign Relations: Both the classical Roman Empire and the medieval Roman Empire had vague relations with China, some delegations and letters were exchanged. It is quite remarkable that occurred!

Negative Media Portrayal of Romans: I really hate the Romans being portrayed as like the Empire from Star Wars in all the TV shows, it is ridiculous!

Being Roman – Byzantine Ethnicity: Anthony Kaldellis has convinced by that the Roman identity was not just a civic identity, like being American, but a true ethnicity in the Byzantine world. It is an amazing argument, worth reading about.

Roman/Byzantine Continuity – my own thoughts on the matter, the Byzantine Empire IS the Roman Empire, not a “successor.”

Contemporary Arab Views of Byzantine Women: Medieval Arab writers stereotyped Byzantine women as promiscuous and immoral – yet also desirable. They are stereotyped in varying ways as “the most shameless,” adulterous, beautiful, uncovered, uncircumcised, & being uncontrolled – but also as attractive and beautiful. Interesting stuff!
