SIEGES OF CONSTANTINOPLE

The Avar/Persian Siege (626) – The first real siege of Constantinople, it was unlikely that the city would fall, but it was an interesting siege which showed the serious military threat of the Avar Khaganate.

The Fourth Crusade (1204) – perhaps the most defining moment in Byzantine history, a point of no return, and a tragedy. I put a lot of work into this article to tell this tragic tale, because I think it is the most important.

Byzantine Liberation of Constantinople(1261) – A kind of happy ending to a tragic tale of the Fourth Crusade. But the liberation of the City had complicated consequences, especially for Anatolia.

THE FALL OF CONSTANTINOPLE (1453) – This is basically the awesome series finale for the long history of the Roman Empire. The finale for the Western Roman Empire in 476 never lived up to the hype, but the fall of Constantinople is an all-action intriguing battle.
